SILLS & LINTELS
Signs Your Sills or Lintels Need Attention
Rust stains or flaking steel above a window, bricks lifting or cracking over an opening, stair-step cracks running from window corners, and cracked, crumbling or back-sloped sills are common warning signs. Steel lintels expand as they rust and push the brick above them, so the damage grows over time. Catching it early keeps the repair small.

Fix the Cause of Cracks
Cracks above windows are often caused by a rusting lintel. Replacing it fixes the problem instead of patching the cracks.

Keep Water Out of the Wall
A cracked or flat sill sends water into the wall below the window. A new sloped sill with proper flashing sheds it away.

New Openings Done Right
Adding or enlarging a window or door in brick needs proper support and a clean finish. We cut, support and finish openings to match the wall.
Quality Service
Inspection & Quote
We inspect the opening and the brick around it, find the cause of the cracking and provide a written quote.
Support the Masonry
We install temporary support for the brick above the opening so it stays safe while the old lintel or sill is removed.
Our Process
At Monarch Masonry, work around openings starts with supporting the brick above before anything is removed. We inspect the sill, lintel and surrounding brick, confirm the scope and give you a written quote. We temporarily support the masonry, remove the failed lintel or sill, install new steel or precast pieces with flashing, and rebuild the brick around them. For new or enlarged openings, we tell you up front if an engineer or permit is needed.
Replace & Rebuild
We install a new lintel or sill with flashing and end dams, then rebuild the surrounding brick with matched brick and mortar.
Seal, Clean & Review
We seal joints where the window meets the masonry, clean up and walk you through the finished opening.

REVIEWS

Why is the brick cracking above my window?
The most common cause is a steel lintel that is rusting and expanding, lifting the brick above it. Settlement can also cause cracks at window corners.
Can you replace a lintel without removing the window?
Usually, yes. We support the brick, remove the old lintel and install the new one while the window stays in place.
Can you make a new window or door opening in a brick wall?
Yes. We cut the opening, install the lintel and finish the brick edges and sill. Structural openings may need an engineer and a permit, and we let you know before starting.
Do you build brick arches?
Yes. We repair and build brick arches over windows, doors and garden openings.
